While I attended UH, one place you could go for like automatic 2-4 meals depending on how much they loaded the sides, was Gina’s. Gina’s was and still is pretty legendary and they continue to load da buggah up.
Chicken Katsu?
Mean.
Meat and Fish Jun?
Epic.
Kalbi?
Winnahs and not the manini kine only get small piece meat and mostly bone.
The sides?
Take your pick, they get two types of potato, mac salad, cabbage, kimchi, taegu, bok choy, sprouts, and more, like the little omelette if you lucky.
I can’t recall for certain, but Gina’s and Foodland, might be the only two tenants remaining from the time I was at UH a couple (many) moons ago. At least the upstairs part of the little structure.
I happened to rediscover Gina’s during the pandemic and have made recent stops to enjoy all the amazing that is Gina’s.
Prices have had to increase, like anything else, but in the era of the $20 plate lunch, Gina’s will not leave you feeling hungry nor taken advantage of, and guaranteed you get leftovers, maybe for days. And for me at least, there’s a sense of connection and wanting to support long-time local businesses who are still out there doing their thing despite how challenging the economy and times can be.
Eh, so next time you in Town and hungry for Korean food or just want something epic in general while supporting a small business, swing by Market City, cause Gina’s all the way!
